In a resolute effort to address the pressing issue of human trafficking and protect the vulnerable, Future Builders Initiative (FBI) joined hands with three other non-governmental organizations (NGOs), Motivator’s Crib Africa, Community Advanced Initiative for Self Reliance (CAI4SR), to conduct a highly impactful step-down training for 28 NGOs in Osun State. The training, held at the esteemed WOCDIF Event Centre in Osogbo on Friday, August 7, 2023, was a significant milestone in the fight against trafficking and aimed to empower participants with the necessary skills and strategies to counter this abhorrent crime in the region effectively.
The training program, focusing on Countering Trafficking in Persons (CTIP), was organized in line with FBI’s thematic area of Youth Development and Peace and Conflict Management. In June 2023, FBI and its partner NGOs underwent an intensive training program conducted by LEAP Africa, setting the groundwork for this transformational initiative.
Human trafficking remains a grave concern in Nigeria, with vulnerable individuals falling victim to this exploitative crime every day. Recognizing the urgency of collective action, FBI, along with collaborating NGOs, took proactive measures to address trafficking within their communities and safeguard those at risk.
The training programme was marked by an atmosphere of dedication and determination. Facilitators, renowned experts in the field, led engaging discussions, interactive workshops, and practical sessions to equip the participating NGOs with comprehensive knowledge and the best practices to combat trafficking effectively.
Bukola Ejiade, who led the team for the Heritage Life Support Initiative in the programme, expressed profound gratitude for the valuable training received from Future Builders Initiative and partner NGOs, stating, “The training was a turning point for us. Now, we are united, equipped, and determined to stand against trafficking, protecting the lives of our fellow citizens in Osun State.”
The 28 participating NGOs, hailing from various parts of Osun State, showed unwavering commitment to the cause. Their shared mission fostered a strong sense of camaraderie and strengthened their resolve to eradicate trafficking and provide hope and assistance to victims.
As the sun set on the event, the hearts of Future Builders Initiative and participants were filled with compassion and a renewed sense of purpose. Their joint efforts and unwavering commitment to addressing human trafficking are a testament to the power of collective action in creating a safer society.
The impact of this training is expected to extend far beyond the event. Equipped with newfound knowledge and skills, the participating NGOs will serve as advocates and agents of change, raising awareness, protecting victims, and preventing trafficking in the region.
The collaboration between Future Builders Initiative and the partnering NGOs exemplifies the spirit of unity, dedication, and collaboration needed to combat such a heinous crime. According to the participants, their joint journey has just begun, and their collective efforts will serve as a beacon of hope, inspiring others to join the fight against trafficking and create a brighter, safer future for all the residents of Osun State.
As the ripple effect of this training continues, it is hoped that more organizations and individuals will step forward to be part of the solution, amplifying the impact and driving meaningful change in the fight against human trafficking in Nigeria. The commitment demonstrated by Future Builders Initiative and their partner NGOs serves as a reminder that when united, people have the power to make a real difference and bring about lasting positive change.
